Event Details

Early in his career, Taylor had the honor of working with Stan Kenton, who recorded many of his pieces. He then had a remarkable career with the US Army Band (‘Pershing’s Own’) and the Army Blues, retiring as Chief Arranger in 2001. The featured soloist, trumpeter Marvin Stamm, shares Taylor’s roots at North Texas State and with the band of Stan Kenton, where he appeared on 5 albums. Following work with Woody Herman, Frank Sinatra, and Benny Goodman, he became one of the busiest musicians in New York studios while playing for years with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. Stamm maintains a busy touring and recording schedule, and has a long involvement in jazz education as mentor and clinician.
