Ybor City Museum Society Legacy Awards Brunch

Now in its 33rd year, the Legacy Awards celebrate the achievements of visionaries who have made a lasting economic or cultural impact on Ybor City, Tampa's National Historic Landmark District.

M. G. “Manny” Alvarez Jr. was selected to receive the Ybor Award for his distinguished career as a banker over six decades and his service and philanthropy to the community throughout his lifetime. Mr. Alvarez was a key player in opening the Ybor City branch of USAmeriBank. Following retirement in 2016, he continues his involvement with Ybor City through his emeritus status with the bank.

Pizzo Award recipient, Rich Simmons, is founder and principal of RSA Architecture, where he designs and manages many types of projects. Mr. Simmons’s love of Ybor City has led to his involvement in numerous Boards and Commissions so he can give back to his community. He currently is Chair of the Barrio Latino Commission and member of the Ybor City Development Corporation (YCDC) Board, and served as YCMS Chair for three years.
Brenda Thrower, who will receive the Adela Gonzmart Award, is the Economic Development Specialist with the Ybor City Development Corporation where she has worked for more than 20 years. She has been instrumental in the redevelopment of Ybor City through the administration of grant programs, oversite of the Historic District’s marketing plans, and management of several active committees.

Lissette Campos, Director of Community Affairs for WFTS TV ABC Action News and the 2016 recipient of the Pizzo Award, will serve as Mistress of Ceremony.
