Description

Kelly Buttermore and Justin Peters of From Justin to Kelly are bootstrapping an improv festival in Tampa, Florida -- again! -- and could use your help to get it off the ground!

Event Details

The Countdown Improv Festival is the first and only American improv festival devoted exclusively to trio, duo, and solo improv. About 65 fantastic performers from around the country will converge on Tampa's historic Ybor City neighborhood from Thursday, August 16 through Saturday, August 18, for a weekend of shows, workshops, and parties. The festival is an extension of Countdown Theater, the pop-up arts collective that Kelly and Justin run in New York. It's going to be great.

This is our second year running this festival in Tampa. Our inaugural festival succeeded beyond our wildest expectations, and we’re incredibly excited to be heading back to Tampa this August for our second year, which promises to be even bigger and better than our first. This festival is a labor of love for us, intended both to elevate the art form to which we have dedicated ourselves for all these years, as well as to celebrate the vibrant and ever-growing improv community in Tampa Bay.

We’re working hard to build on the successes of last year’s festival to secure partnerships with local businesses in Tampa, but the fact of the matter is we still need help from supporters near and far to help us bring this event to the masses in August. Just like last year, Kelly and Justin are paying for the festival out-of-pocket. While ticket and workshop sales and local partnerships will cover some of the production costs, they won't cover all of them. That's where you come in.

The festival will take place in a 75-seat black-box theater, and we're looking to find people to sponsor as many of those seats as we can. If you choose to sponsor a seat, we will attach a placard to one of those seats for the duration of the festival, bearing your name -- or someone's name, doesn't have to be yours -- and a message of your choice (within reason, don't be a jerk). The sponsorships were a big hit with the audience last year. (Seriously, we had trouble getting people to leave the theater during show breaks, because everyone was standing around reading the seats.)
