Earlier today, Busch Gardens officials announced that they'd filed for permits that would allow the park to remove the Sandstorm ride from the Timbuktu section in order to make way for a new attraction coming in 2013.

The Sandstorm is a small and portable ride according to park officials.  Busch Gardens plans to move the spinning, seated attraction to the plaza in front of the Gwazi twin coasters, but were pretty tight-lipped when it came to saying what would take its place.

Many are speculating that the park will install a new drop tower attraction similar to Dr. Doom's Fear Fall at Islands of Adventure or the Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  These rides feature stomach-turning free fall drops at 60 to 80 miles per hour and provide birds eye views of the park.

Busch Gardens' sister park in Williamsburg, Virginia recently opened a similar drop tower that rises 245 feet in the air and sits next to the park's Oktoberfest dining hall.
