With the Southwest Airlines announcement offering daily nonstop flights from Tampa to San Diego beginning January of 2018, Tampa International Airport travelers now have additional options for non-stop travel.

United, recently announced non-stop flights to San Francisco starting in February while Delta will begin offering direct flights to Salt Lake City later this year. Las Vegas travelers have nonstop options with Frontier Airlines. For Tampa travelers, other direct flights to the west include Austin through Southwest and Seattle on Alaskan Air.

San Diego direct is one of three domestic flights targeted by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board at the end of last year. Having now secured both San Diego and Salt Lake City, this leaves only Portland as the remaining market on their wish-list.

Internationally, Tampa International Airport targeted Mexico City, Lima, Bogota, Amsterdam, Manchester as Dublin as destination locations to add.

TIA also has new flights to Canada serving various locations with Air Canada and WestJet; as well as new seasonal service to Toronto and Montreal via Air Transat.

In March, the Airports Council International named Tampa International Airport North America’s top airport for airports serving 15 to 25 million passengers, and second-best for North American airports larger than 2 million annual passengers.

Emily Nipps, Senior Manager of Communications at TIA, says, “Tampa International Airport is going through a significant growth spurt, as we’ve seen 14 percent overall passenger growth over the last seven years and more than a 100 percent increase in international travelers. We continue to focus on adding additional domestic and international routes for Tampa's faithful base of Canadian and British passengers. By expanding TPA and adding 69 new restaurants, bars, shops and services, we hope to remain one of the most loved airports in the country for generations to come.” Visit our Travel Page for more interesting articles and information about Travel in and outside of Tampa.
