The Hillsborough River is a 59-mile long, 27,000 year-old river that flows through Pasco and Hillsborough counties and empties into beautiful Tampa Bay.

Today it exists as a vast ecosystem home to a seemingly endless number of animals, fauna, and us humans enjoying a number of recreational activities like camping alongside the river bank and, most notably, taking canoe trips down this beautiful river.

Canoeing is a great way to see this beautiful river in a way you probably never have before and, luckily, there are a number of options for renting one.

Canoe Escape, a company specializing in kayak and canoe rentals on the river, offers a variety of self and guided tours down the river.  Prices range anywhere between $24 and $56 per paddler depending on your choice of canoe or kayak and the duration of your selected trip.

Trips range from ~2 hours to go 4.5 miles all the way up till ~6 hours for a 14 mile trip down the river.

If you're going on a lengthy trip, there are stops approximately every 2 hours along the river that include picnic tables and restrooms to relax or enjoy a meal.

If you don't know anything about canoeing (don't worry, you're not the only one) a guided tour might be a little more fitting.  Canoe Escape offers a 4.5 miles, 3 hour paddling trip scheduled every Wednesday at 11:00 as well non-scheduled tips as long as you book 48 hours in advance.  These trips are $130 for one person, $75 per person for groups of 2 to 5, and $60 for groups of 6 or more.

Hillsborough River State Park also offers canoe rentals for $10 an hour and $25 for 4 hours.  You can also enjoy a variety of recreational activities at the park from camping to bicycling, picnicking, and much more.
