When it comes to the flavors of the Caribbean right here in the Tampa Bay area, there's a relatively new player in town bringing it to hungry diners faster and fresher than ever before.  It's called Checo's restaurant and it's been dishing out classic Caribbean and Latin American fare in North Tampa since October.

Owned by Rafael and Benecia Checo, both natives of the Dominican Republic, Checo's menu provides a wide assortment of dishes from the Caribbean and beyond for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  From pork, chicken, and beef entrees to sandwiches, salads, and more, there's definitely a little something for everyone at Checo's.

Start off your meal with one of Checo's classic appetizers like their signature Picadero Checo platter with fried pork skins, fried pork chunks, yucca, green plantains and sweet plantains joined together on a huge sampler plate.  Other appetizers at Checo's include Arepitas de Maiz (fried cornmeal cakes) and other Caribbean classics.

Checo's really shines when it comes to authentic Caribbean entrees like mofongo, a mashed plantain-based entree with pork cracklins, a savory, seasoned broth, and your choice of protein with selections like chicken, beef, shrimp, pork, or fried fish.  They also succeed with the classic Latin American dish, Paella.

Their version of Paella comes packed with shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops, and calamari over a bed of steamed yellow rice.  If you're looking for a seafood feast, this is it.
