Description
OUR WATERY SELVES, an evening with Dr. Stephen Spotte, to celebrate the release of his powerful new autobiography MY WATERY SELF: Memoirs of a Marine Scientist, with special guest Mary Lou Johnson, author of THE LURE OF LONGBOAT KEY.
Event Details
At the event, Spotte will read excerpts from his book, discussing his scientific and personal adventures in a lifetime that took him from a West Virginia coal camp, through the counterculture 60s, to becoming one of the leading experts in marine aquaculture. His extensive work includes setting up the framework for ten major public aquariums, authoring more than eighty scientific papers on marine biology, ocean chemistry and aquaculture, penning eighteen books, and working with leading aquariums and research facilities in New York, the Canadian Arctic, the Bering Sea, the West Indies, Central America and the Amazon basin of Ecuador and Brazil.
Special guest Mary Lou Johnson, an award-winning photographer and author of THE LURE OF LONGBOAT KEY, will screen some of her extensive work photographing the Gulf of Mexico and land culture of the area and discuss her artistic process.
The event will take place Thursday, March 12, 5:30 pm at Mote Marine Laboratory, where Spotte serves as an adjunct scientist. Admission is free. Books from both authors will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
RSVP is required by March 10. Contact Alyson Gamble at 941-388-4441, ext 333 or agamble@mote.org or sign up through Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/our-watery-selves-tickets-15712941832.
