At CJ's Bar-B-Skew, every customer is a "rock star."Kitchen staffer are "roadies." The wait staffers are "groupies."The monikers are the brainchild of the restaurant's co-owner and classic rock fan, Chris Politis.Scheduled to open on Monday at 10047 N Dale Mabry Highway, the restaurant will be the latest in fast-casual dining in the Carrollwood area. Politis said he hopes to change people's idea of barbecue by offering a wide range of items for every taste."We're incorporating a lot of skewers, and we're a little bit more on the healthy side," Politis said. "Barbecue has been categorized as a 'male food.' We're trying to establish ourselves as something for everyone with a fresh new look to the barbecue scene."Some of the skewers include: the Mediterranean, which has grilled chicken and feta cheese; veggie; and beef tip. All items can be served by themselves or on pita bread."On top of the barbecue, we do a rotisserie chicken," Politis added. "We smoke our pork butts. We smoke the ribs, cook the best puled pork sandwich in town and we have unbelievable hamburgers and hot dogs. Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The business plans to launch a website at cjsbarbskew.com. Pros: The FILET MIGNON TIP SKEWER was THE MOST tender meat I have ever tasted on a stick. Not to mention the awesome thick cut Sweet Potato Fries with warm marshmallow dipping sauce and the big juicy burger with a delicious bun right down to the last bite. I can't wait to try everything on the menu.
Overall, VERY good. I am looking forward to trying more menu items. I'll keep you posted!
Pros: I was in Tampa recently for business and I stopped into CJ's for lunch. I was delighted to see other customers enjoying what looked like a REALLY GOOD burger priced for just $7 and change on the menu board. Well, it tasted even better than it looked! In fact, all the food looked great and was priced surprisingly well for the portion and level of quality. I am delighted because you can't get a good meal for under $10 many places in this market. I am somewhat of a "Burger Fanatic" where I am from and I used to go out of my way to try different burgers around town before I noticed prices going up and quality becoming more scarce. (Ruby Tuesdays a PRIME EXAMPLE of this horrible trend) I resorted to making burgers at home on the grill because mine are usually better and less expensive. I have to say that CJ's gave me a few flavorful tips in the burger department. Thanks for the awesome meal and enjoyable experience guys. I look forward to trying some of those ribs upon my return. They smelt pretty good.
Cons: As long as you don't mind walking up and ordering your food there are no cons. The wait staff brings your meal to the table and takes up the plates, etc. when you leave. I prefer this over a full service experience where the waiter is bothering you every few minutes.
