Dairy Council of Florida is hosting its fourth Annual Gridiron Cooking Challenge, a fun-filled competition for kids in elementary and middle school. Student chefs in the Tampa and Central Florida regions will compete May 13 at One Buccaneer Place in Tampa. Competitions are also being held in Miami and Jacksonville on separate dates.
Earlier this year, students in four-person teams submitted healthy recipes featuring dairy ingredients. The finalists – from Lecanto Primary, Sunridge Middle School, Goldsboro Elementary and Lake Gibson Middle School - will prepare their dishes before a panel of judges for a chance to win a $2,500 prize pack for their school, four IPads and additional prizes.
Attendees at the event –which is free and open to the public – will be greeted by Dairy Council of Florida’s mascot, “Merry Moo,” and be served a nutritious breakfast. Guests and participants will have the opportunity to observe a cooking demo by Publix Supermarkets and take photos with Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive guard, Ali Marpet, Buccaneers cheerleaders, and team mascot “Captain Fear.”
The Gridiron Cooking Challenge is created and supported by the Florida Dairy Farmers and is part of Fuel Up to Play 60, an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council and NFL to help encourage today’s youth to lead healthier lives.
