Writer and director Dinesh D'Souza struck a major chord with the American voting and movie-watching populace last year with the release of his highly controversial and wildly popular documentary 2016: Obama's America.  So much so that the film became highest grossing conservative political film produced in the United States shortly after its August 2012 release.

Now, after the success of 2016: Obama's America, D'Souza is at it again filming a movie right here in Tampa Bay (or, at least, partially here) that spans from the discovery of America to the modern era.

The film's cast, crew, and other workers spent the last four days at Fort DeSoto Park on St. Pete Beach filming sequences that depict Christopher Columbus and his crew aboard the Nina and Pinta landing and taking their first steps onto American soil, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Souza and his film crew used replica Nina and Pinta ships anchored a couple hundred feet from the shore and built a replica Asian-Indian village in the Arrowhead picnic area at Fort DeSoto Park to give this upcoming docu-drama the realest feel possible.

"We decided to step back and do a big film about the meaning of America.  How do you structure a film like that? What's the question you ask to get people thinking?" Souza said to the Times earlier this week.
