Looking for something different to do downtown other than the usual bar or nightclub?  Problem solved.  For almost 20 years a group called ‘Skate Trash’ has invaded the streets of Downtown Tampa and St. Pete with their roller-skates.  Not to be confused with rollerblades, these skaters pride themselves in lacing up their vintage-style skates to take on the streets while skating from bar to bar.

The most popular skate night is on Saturdays from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. meeting up at the SE corner of Franklin and Polk Street.  The trek is over 9 miles, all of which does not have to be completed but is respected if you can, heading over to Ybor City or Hyde Park.

Skate T.R.A.S.H. was founded in 1985 in Houston, Texas when a group of skaters called Urban Animals only allowed people to skate with them that they felt were ‘cool.’  Skate Trash decided they wanted to skate with anyone and everyone that wanted to join, establishing themselves and then launching the Tampa location in 1991.  There is no cost to join the group, all they ask is that you bring your skates!  The group will be creating their 20 Year Anniversary t-shirt which will only cost $10.

For additional information on their skate nights and locations, visit their official site here.
Contact Ken at (727)581-5580 for any questions and confirmations.  He is always more than happy to talk to future fellow skaters!

See you on the streets…
