CJ's Bar-B-Skew is the newest addition to a line up of great barbecue restaurants in the Tampa Bay area.  Opened shortly over a month ago at a North Dale Mabry shopping center (10047 N. Dale Mabry Highway), CJ's aims to bring their brand of barbecue to Tampa with a vintage, rock n' roll theme and menu well versed in barbecue classics as well as a few unique originals.

These originals come in the form of CJ's Bar-B-Skews namesake, Greek-inspired skewers.  These include veggie skewers loaded with a collection of delectable veggies - portabella mushrooms, grilled onions, hummus, marinated cucumbers and tomatoes - topped with feta sauce and served on a warm pita.  There's also a filet mignon tip skewer with dry rubbed filet, portabella, grilled onion, bleu cheese marinated tomato, and bleu cheese on a pita as well as a Mediterranean chicken skewer with artichoke, roasted peppers, grilled onions, tomato salad, hummus, and pesto on a pita.

When it comes to classic barbecue, CJ's Bar-B-Skew serves up a variety of American barbecue staples including ribs, chicken, and pulled pork.  Their pulled pork sandwich comes loaded with a heap of slow roasted pulled pork, fried tobacco onions, and pickled red onion slaw on a soft, brioche bun.  Sides come in the form of classic, jalepeno corn muffins, fried okra, homemade potato chips, and more.

Servers, called "groupies" at CJ's don pyschedelic, tie dye shirts and the typical order number cards are replaced with old 45 rpm records to complete the vintage rock and roll vibe.

If you're looking for barbecue that strays at bit from the norm, but still knows its way around the classics, the new CJ's Bar-B-Skew in North Tampa seems like a great bet.
