When it comes to a solid plate of barbecue in Tampa, you've got a lot of choices.  Barbecue is an art. Some restaurants are insanely skilled at their craft, meticulously working every element down to the smallest detail, while others just pass on by with mediocrity.  These eateries will definitely do you a solid if you're looking for some great barbecue in Tampa.

Sonny's BBQ - If you are looking for a slow-smoked deal Sonny's BBQ is one of the best barbecue restaurants that you need to try now. If you love pulled pork try their Big Deal that comes with french fries and sweet tea. Each kitchen is led by a local pitmaster, a position earned through rigorous training and education on all things barbecue to ensure the highest quality of food.

Jimbo's - We stopped by Jimbo's for our Taste Tour of 813 column and it definitely didn't disappoint. Jimbo's has been in the area for over 30 years, so you know they're doing something right when it comes to good barbecue.  Their regular and catering menus offer a variety of classic barbecue meat - ribs, pulled pork, chicken, sausage - and classic sides from baked beans to hush puppies.

Kojak's House of Ribs - You probably know what you should order just by reading this eatery's name.  Their delectable ribs come dry rubbed in a flavorful seasoning that's been keeping people coming back for over 20 years and their wide selection of pulled pork, chicken, and sausage definitely shines as well.

Holy Hog Barbecue - Holy Hog is rather new in comparison to some of these other places, but they're gunning to make some of the best Southern barbecue in the Tampa Bay area.  They use the best cuts of pork, beef, and other meats they can find to create some great, smokey, barbecued perfection.

BJ’s Alabama Barbecue - BJ's is a premier destination for top-of-the-line, authentic Southern barbecue in Tampa. Stop by this no-frills eatery for a hearty dose of everything from ribs to pulled pork, smoked chicken, brisket, and much more. Like any great BBQ joint they only take cash, but they do have an ATM available for the credit card crowd.

Deviled Pig - A relatively new South Tampa BBQ restaurant that two high-profile culinary pros plus a local businessman have partnered to open in our backyards. I went over the weekend and their pulled pork is so tender and flavorful that I might end up back there next weekend too! If you’re looking for large sandwiches, unique and flavorful sauces or some juicy beefy ribs you need to check out the Deviled Pig!

Al’s Finger Licking Bar B Que - The most mouth-watering BBQ you have ever had lies on the corner of E 6th Ave and Angel Oliva Senior Street near Ybor City. Their fare includes southern-style cooking that has been slow-smoked to perfection.

4 Rivers Smokehouse - Head to South MacDill or North Dale Mabry for a sweet and savory barbecue feast. This counter-serve joint features Texas-style BBQ, homestyle sides & sweet treats that will satisfy even the pickiest eater.

Mission BBQ - Who are they? Two friends passionate about superior BBQ, patriotic for our country, and who believe in running a business with meaning and purpose. We believe there is nothing more American than BBQ. And nobody is more American than the brave men and women who have sworn to protect and serve our communities and our country. So stop by a Mission BBQ today, there are three in the Tampa Bay Area, and support the troops!

BnB Heights Public Market - Butcher and Barbeque offers cured and in-house smoked meats, everything off the cutting board, and sandwiches with all the fixings. My favorite dish from BnB is their nachos with corn salsa, bbq crema, gochujang cheese sauce, queso fresco your choice of pulled pork, pulled chicken, or chopped brisket. The corn salsa is good enough to order a full side of because it’s so flavorful! I also love their burnt ends, they taste like candy!
