Opened earlier this summer in Brandon, Pablanos Mexican Grill and Bar sits in a brand new building erected in front of the shopping center at Kings Boulevard and Lumsden Road.  While the building may be new, tinged with modern Latin-American decor and vibrant colors, many of Pablanos recipes are timeless and classic Mexican by way of American dishes you've grown to love.

Their traditionalist approach with items like burritos, tacos, fajitas, and the like is much appreciated, but lets be real, you can find these anywhere.  I wanted to see how Poblanos differentiates itself from the pack when stopping in for this week's edition of the Taste Tour of 813.

Their surprisingly expansive lunch menu covers the traditional Mexican offerings quite well with a few unique, and personally unseen additions, that just beg to be tried.

The California Burrito, for instance, comes packed with carne asada, guacamole, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato, and...french fries.  It's a little different, nothing crazy, and it completely works.

Opt for the questo topping on the burrito and you've got a calorie-laden treat that should easily quell any burrito craving.  The crunch of the fries tinged with the fat of the steak absolutely works with this monstrosity.  The steak was a bit chewy, but not quite tough, and seasoned just lightly enough for the meaty flavor to still shine.

For $8 and some change with unlimited chips and a free, fresh salsa bar included, a lunch like this at Poblanos definitely won't set you back.

If you're around Brandon and enjoy well-executed, budget-friendly Mexican food, give Poblanos a try, then let us know what you think with a rating and review on the Poblanos Mexican Grill and Bar 813area business listing.
