A Conversation with Shaquem Griffin hosted by Brent Martineau from Action Sports Jax
This event is free to the community!
Shaquem Gri?n and his identical twin brother, Shaquill, were born on July 20, 1995. Shaquem was born with amniotic band syndrome leaving his left hand severely damaged. Due to the extreme pain caused by his birth defect, he had his left hand amputated at the age of four.
In school, Shaquem excelled on the athletic field and in the classroom. He committed to play football at the University of Central Florida (UCF) along with Shaquill.
The first three years at UCF were di?cult for Shaquem as he was not receiving a lot of playing time. However, he persevered and everything changed his junior year. He was finally given a chance to start and had a historic season as an outside linebacker. He was voted 1st Team All-Conference and was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. His senior year was even more inspiring. As the captain of the team, Shaquem lead UCF to an undefeated season and National Championship!
All of this led to the most impressive NFL Combine performance by an NFL Draft prospect. With only one hand, Shaquem became the only player in history to weigh over 225 pounds, bench press over 20 reps and run a sub 4.4 forty-yard dash. This performance generated millions of fans around the globe and ultimately, Shaquem was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 5th Round of the 2018 NFL Draft. This reunited him with his twin brother Shaquill who is currently the starting cornerback for the Seahawks. As he moves forward with his NFL career, one thing is certain: Shaquem will continue to inspire millions.
