Every year, Halloween falls on October 31, you can set your calendars to it.  The Halloween party dates, themes, and costumes, however, change every year.  Halloween parties usually start to occur the week prior to Halloween with the majority of the events the Friday and Saturday before, or after since this year Halloween lands on a Thursday.  Many of the major Halloween events like Creatures of the Night, Howl-O-Scream, haunted houses, and more tend to start toward the end of September.  The themes for parties and the popular costumes vary based on movies released that year, events during the year, popular TV shows, celebrities that recently died, and more.  Halloween costume trends vary each year and we take a look at the trends for 2019 costumes, too.

Many Halloween parties have a theme and you want to make sure you stick to the theme so you don't stand out like you are at the wrong party.  Showing up to a party as a Disney character to a Zombie party would not be a good idea.  Along with the theme of the Halloween event you are attending, you should consider discussing ideas with the friends you are going with.  Many couples like to wear costumes that go together like police and prisoner costumes.  If you are going with a group of people, it looks good if you can agree on a set of costumes that goes together like having the whole cast of Wizard of Oz.  To pull this off successfully, though, you have to know the exact number of people in your group so nobody gets left out or you don't have enough people for the whole cast.  Also, make sure you find out if there is a Hallowen Costume Contest and the type of costume contest (sexiest, scariest, etc.) as you may decide to enter.

We have grouped the trends for 2019 Halloween costumes based on different themes:

Movies:

Marvel - With another Marvel movie being released in 2019, you can rummage through your old superhero costumes and either repeat one this year or make a new one with the remains of your old costume.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark - Do you remember this book from when you were in elementary school, too? Well, this year they made it into a spooky and thrilling movie. So why not dress up as a childhood favorite for Halloween!

Charlies Angels - With the new Charlies Angels movie coming out, and Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Ray and Ariana Grande singing the movies hit song, this is something all girl gangs can use as costume inspiration.

It Chapter Two - I'm not saying that I would like to see It's walking around this Hallows Eve, especially since the original film was made in Tampa, but it makes for a terrifying costume.

SpiderMan - After all of the buzz about whether Marvel or Sony is getting the rights to Spiderman, it's an appropriate time to dress up as Ton Holland this Hallows eve.

TV Shows:

Euphoria - If you haven't seen Euphoria yet, you're missing out. Not only is the show one of the greatest to be released this year but the characters all have unique styles, down to their makeup, that would make for a fun Halloween costume.

Rick and Morty - Ah, a crazy Grandfather and Grandson duo that we've all grown to know and love, Rick and Morty! These costumes are easy, get some gray hair spray and a lab coat and all of a sudden you've become Rick. Put on a yellow t-shirt and jeans, a costume you likely already have in your closet!

Stranger Things -  If you've got a group of 5 or 6 of you that are heading to a party, dress up as the kids from Stranger Things!

The Office - Office costumes will never go out of style. Jim, Pam, Dwight or even Kevin have epic TV moments that you can easily turn into a costume. Don't even get me started with all of the fun, funny and relatable Micheal Scott costumes you can design.

Celebrities:

The Kardashians - Whether you love them or hate them, Keeping Up with The Kardashians is something we can't help but do.

Ariana Grande - Get some LONG hair extensions and put them in a high pony, you're already halfway there! All you need is a skimpy number worthy of a headlining performance to go with it and you're officially Ariana Grande.

Meghan Merkel and Prince Harry - The newest royal couple, and the most trendy princess to ever grace the palace, would be a perfect Halloween costume this year. Since Meghan Merkel became a princess, shes been all over the news, so cut out a clip from the nearest tabloid and use it as inspiration this Halloween.

Antonio Brown - Though it may be difficult to put on a jersey for him, considering he doesn't play in the NFL anymore, you could always make a play on his fall from the top of the NFL. If you got a patriots jersey for Antonio Brown, this is an easy way to tease the fans of New England.

Themed Parties

Whether you are buying your costume to fit the Halloween event you are attending or you want to find a Halloween event to match your costume, here is a list of popular Tampa Halloween events and their themes:

Leather & Laces Halloween Party at WTR - Wear your sexiest Halloween costume to WTR on October 26th for the hottest Halloween party in Tampa!

Downtown After Dark - Downtown after dark is a fun night filled with 5 different Halloween parties and each has an awesome theme. This year the five themes are ScoobyDoo, Dance Party of Gone Legends, 90s Throwback Party, Dia de los Muertos and CarnEVIL Mask Party.

Saints & Sinners Halloween PartyAre you a saint or a sinner? Whether you want to dress like the saint or sinner that you are, or come as your alter-ego, this is going to be one of Tampa's biggest Halloween bashes of 2019.

Downtown Pub Crawl -  Because Halloween is the beginning of the end of 2019 and we're on our way back into the roaring 20's, a Halloween Bar Crawl in Downtown is having just that as the theme!

Haunted CircusIf you're planning on being a scary or cute Clown this Halloween, be sure to attend the Haunted Circus Party at Club Skye.

ComicCon Halloween Party - Tampa's most beloved college bar, MacDinton's is hosting a comic-con themed party this Halloween. So if you're dressing as any of the Avengers, you'll need to return ti MacDinton's on October 26th.

Whatever your decision with your costume, remember to have fun with it.  Halloween is the one time of year you can wear anything (or almost nothing) and nobody will judge you.  Well, they may judge you but it will probably be for a winner in a costume contest.  Remember, while there are "popular" Halloween costumes, you still want to put your unique touch to your costume.  Buying a generic costume is not the way to look the best, get the attention, or win a costume contest.  Enjoy Halloween and remember to take lots of pictures!
