The hiring rate for jobs in Tampa has increased 36 percent year over year according to a new report by online job search engine Simply Hired.

Following last month's news that the state's unemployment rate had dropped to 7.5 percent and that both Tampa and Florida were named as some of the top markets in the nation for business startups and innovation, this could be the icing on the cake when it comes to the evidence that the market for jobs in Tampa is definitely improving.

The survey found that hiring in Tampa has increased 3.5 percent month over month and 36 percent since this time last year.  It also notes that competition in the Tampa jobs market is less competitive than the national average, with two unemployed people for every one job as opposed to the national average of three, according to a statement.

According to Simply Hired, the top five companies hiring in Tampa include BayCare Health System with 1,732 jobs, HCA Healthcare with 757 jobs, St. Leo University with 322 jobs, University of South Florida with 240 jobs, and Citi with 237 jobs.
