So, the Rays didn't make the playoffs, the Lightning are locked out until who knows when, and the Bucs are already on their way to another dismal season with a record of 1-3, but don't be dismayed, the Tampa Bay area's still got one thing to brag about; gas prices!

Ok, so it might be about 1/100th as exciting as sports, but the average price for a gallon of gas in Tampa has dropped 14.4 cents over the past month.  Compared to the nations average decrease of 1.3 cents over the past month, Tampa is leading the nation as one of the cities with the cheapest gas clocking it at an average price of $3.59 per gallon.

Compared to the record highs in California, this is surely a small relief for Tampa, and by larger part, Florida drivers.  California recently reached an average high of $4.65 per gallon according to analysts from GasBuddy.com.  According to the analysts, California's all-time high was due to refinery and transmissions problems as well as the state's mandate for cleaner burning gasoline from April through October.

Even still, Tampa's average gas price per gallon is 34.1 cents higher than it was a year ago and even July, when the prices at some Tampa gas stations dipped below the $3 mark.

The national average is 37.2 cents higher than last year's.
