It didn’t have the sheer joy and unbridled emotion of the night the Bucs won the Super Bowl.  But I still liked Tuesday and the two pieces of NFL sports news that came down, changing the game forever. Many of you heard about the Super Bowl, did you catch the other big news?

Two NFL Decision Made Tuesday a Great Day in Tampa Bay

Well, OK, maybe not quite changing forever, but at least it added some spice to an ordinary Tuesday afternoon!

First, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote a letter to pro football fans, saying the league was softening its rules and penalties on touchdown celebrations.  This season, it will be okay for players to go a little nuts after they score or do something good on the field. Hallelujah!!  The suits on Park Avenue are finally listening to the fans and it’s about time.

The creativity of the NFL's diva receivers will no longer be diminished.  Now, get offensive or nasty and you’ll get whacked by the striped shirts.  But if Ezekiel Elliott wants to jump in a Salvation Army bucket after a TD, Goodell might be there to help him in.

One of the originators of TD celebrations, Billy “White Shoes” Johnson, was quick to respond. “So glad they’re lightening up.  They had taken the fun & spontaneity out of the game.”

Then there is good news item #2, Tampa getting a fifth Super Bowl.. this one Super Bowl LV in 2021.  It was last year that Tampa lost out twice, to Atlanta and Miami, for another Big Game.

Now, all they had to do was wait for Mother Nature to hear the pleas from drought-stricken LA for rain and provide, and provide she did! It rained so hard and for so long in Los Angeles construction delays on the new stadium in Southern California mounted up to the City losing their Super Bowl game.  Do you agree, choosing Tampa was the easiest decision the NFL has had to make in years?

Need a Super Bowl venue on short notice?  Call Rob Higgins and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.  They’re always ready for a championship event. And you know the phone call was not a surprise to Rob.  Once, LA announced that there would be a construction delay for their new stadium, he could see the immediate future… and a phone call coming from the NFL.

“Hey, Rob, are you folks busy on the first weekend in February in 2021?  Can we play a game at your place?” To which I feel sure Rob Higgins just smiled.
