Sometimes all you need is a “can do” spirit.

One local non-profit supported by the 4th Annual Tampa Bay International Curry Festival believes this so much, that it’s in their name: The Caribbean American National Development Organization Inc. or CANDO.

CANDO is “an independent 501(c) 3 non-profit organization with the mission to create a sustainable state of the art facility for culture, education, entertainment and economic development, which will enhance the quality of life for residents in the Tampa Bay Community.”

They hope to accomplish this by developing and supporting activities of high quality in order to “attract and sustain the interest and attention of Tampa Bay residents” by delivering a “functioning, self sustaining Caribbean American Development Institute and a Caribbean Hall of Fame Center that provides economic development assistance, promote cultural, and provide educational and social support to the Tampa Bay community” and by being a destination for schools, individuals in the community, and tourists, to learn about Caribbean cultures.

At CANDO, the belief is that there is power in diversity. Because of this, CANDO focuses its efforts on unity of various cultures via an education and economic development center that focuses on assisting Caribbean Americans and the Tampa Bay region at-large.

The programs at the center will be centered on skill building, arts, business, sports, cultural exchange, community development and outreach, offering the Bay Area a venue for enculturation, excitement, and understanding unlike any other.
