Sunday, May 21st from 11 am to 3 pm join one of the most interesting and fun groups of women I've ever met, Florida Women in Brewing (FLWiB) at the Brass Tap in historic Ybor City for their monthly charity brunch. This month Brass Tap's beery fun Sunday Brunch coincides with the last day of American Craft Beer Week, the largest national effort focusing on American craft beer in the U.S. today.  All proceeds from Brass Tap's Sunday brunch and select beers from Stella Artois, 610 Brewing, Goose Island and others to be announced will go directly to FLWiB then out to wonderful charities in our Community!

Florida Women in Brewing is a non-profit organization founded in Tampa, by a group of five women working in the brewing industry. Their vision was to have a local organization open to women working within the brewing industry and to women with a genuine interest in seeking a career in the business. An organization wanting to give back locally through various charitable events like the Brass Tap brunch, they also provide educational and networking opportunities for its members.

Something is Brewing

If you've met even one of these fine ladies at one of the many Craft Beer events happening across Tampa Bay their passion for this industry is unforgettable as is their sense of humor.  These girls like to have fun!

My first encounter with FLWiB was at Lowry Park Zoo's massive Wazoo Beerfest event, where I came away a huge fan of this organization.  Inviting and engaging, they taught me in a relatively short period of time about many of the struggles Women in Brewing face in what is typically a male dominant venture.

These ladies make an impact and are affecting standards within the business. Do not be surprised to see women as head brewers, and owners and operators of large breweries and expect more events like The FemAle Brew Fest this Memorial Day Weekend in Ft. Lauderdale, where female brewers from all over the country will be in attendance, including co-founder and owner of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing, Emily Thomas; co-owner of Accomplice Brewery and Ciderworks, Felonice Merriman; director of quality at Ballast Point, Lauren Zeidler; and head brewer at Lagunitas Brewing Company, Mary Bauer.
