Early last week, officials from the University of South Florida cut the ribbon marking the grand opening of their new $17 million dining hall and recreation center.

Housed together under one structure, this 62,000 square foot complex includes about 42,000 square feet of completely new space, and 20,000 square feet of renovated space for both the dining hall and rec center.

In addition to the new and renovated space, the USF campus recreation center now holds more than 100 pieces of new cardio equipment, a theater-style cycle studio for classes, indoor running track, a personal training suite and student work room.

The new Champions Choice dining hall has a new emphasis on health with a wide variety of nutritious meals, including many vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices.  Nutritional information for each meal will even be displayed on 10 iPads throughout the hall.

The dining hall boasts four different food stations including the Gold Energy Zone focused on high-energy foods like pasta and flatbread, Grille FiftySix with an emphasis on protein including grilled meats and veggie, the Comfort Zone for healthy, classic meals, and the Fresh & Green Zone for customized sandwiches and salads.

For drinks, check out the new Coca-Cola Freestyle machine where you can choose from over 100 different beverages or grab some Starbucks if you're looking for a boost of energy.
